Yields 1 - 9 x 12 x 2 inch pan or 9 x 13
Cream together the shortening and 2 cups of sugar.
Beat in the 2 eggs.
Stir in the sourdough, applesauce, cinnamon, cloves and allspice.
In a small bowl, blend the salt, baking soda and 2 TBS sugar. Sprinkle over the cake batter and stir in gently.
Add 2 cups flour and stir until smooth.
Add 1-cup raisins and ½ cup chopped nuts; stir well.
Pour into greased and floured 9 x12 x 2 pan and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees (may need up to 55-60 minutes).
Let cool in pan.
Alternately – pour into two 8 x 8 x1 inch pans and bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
